Bad Poetry day? Yeah, you read that right! The 18th of August is celebrated as Bad Poetry day. Belated Best wishes of the day to you! But why, you ask? But the real question is, why not?
We all have a poet inside us, but it’s just that some of us aren’t that great. So what? Let’s face it – not all of us can play with words, but why should that be a deterrent? Bad Poetry Day celebrates the hidden poet inside all of us, the one that is made fun of by others, the one that we embarrass ourselves with, the one that wrote many a verse and stashed it in the trash. It’s okay to write bad verse guys, ‘cos if not for us, how would the world identify the real poets?
How this day began, is when a group of high school friends met up, wrote some really bad poetry and sent it to their high school teacher! It became such a hit that many followed suit.. Haha, fun isn’t it? That’s the whole point of Bad Poetry Day – to be pointless.
So go on, write out a few lines, send it to someone you like and make them laugh… Or, you can always try the old school teacher too [Psst, maybe you can send them a Domino’s pizza along with poetry so they don’t get too pissed off with ya! ;)]
Here’s to all the Bad Poets of the World!
Hey, you’re a poet!
But you don’t know it.
Try writing some verse,
But don’t be terse.
Pick up pen and paper,
Write it all down.
Show it to others,
But never mind their frown!
If you have tried writing some bad poetry but never showed it to anyone, here is your chance to be rewarded for the attempt. Check out our Bad Poetry Contest.
And remember, life is too short to care about grammar! B)
